You’ll gain cooking skills for life and in no time you’ll be the go-to family chef or uni kitchen gourmand – cooking up a storm – chopping, blending, baking and treating everyone to your culinary masterpieces.

The course structure is completely flexible meaning you can cook at your own pace and schedule cookery sessions to suit you and your busy summer plans. You’ll be guided through the course by our talented teachers, and have a mentor on hand to support you. Our mentors are all qualified Leiths teachers, they are friendly and approachable and always ready to help.  They’ll comment on the food you cook providing expert feedback and useful suggestions, ensuring you get the maximum benefit from this course and take your cooking up a notch or two.

On completing Teen’s Kitchen you’ll get a digital certificate of completion. Not only that, you’ll be a boss in the kitchen having learnt how to effortlessly knock up a kicking curry, produce the perfect steak dinner, and make a mean mac and cheese.

This course shares the same sessions as Absolute Beginners, reworked for students aged 13-18.

Teen’s Kitchen | Entry-level Course

This course is taught by our talented, expert cookery teachers via beautifully produced videos on the Workshop app.

Teen’s Kitchen is a 6-week course that will guide enthusiastic teen cooks through a host of essential skills with recipes chosen to invest in essential cooking skills that will last a lifetime.

Units are packed full of popular dishes and recipes have been cleverly selected to cover a wide range of foundation cookery skills. At the beginning of the course, our teachers will instruct students on key kitchen organisation and hygiene practices delivered in an engaging, interactive format.

The app pauses automatically when you need to complete a step, at which point you can share pictures of your cooking with your classmates and mentor, and send everyone messages of support.

Each week, you will unlock a new batch of video-based sessions that take you step-by-step through the process of cooking a variety of recipes. You can choose to cook these all at once, creating a feast with pudding too, or to spread them out over the week.

By joining the course, you will have access to the following through the Workshop app:

  • Six units, unlocked weekly, guiding you through 3-4 hours of cooking time each week
  • More than 12 individual cooking sessions
  • Expert guidance and one-to-one support from your class mentor
  • Collaborative chat with your own private class and mentor
  • Feedback on your dishes from your class and mentor via a private in-app feed of photo uploads
  • A ‘Certificate of Completion’ after you complete everything on the course

In addition to the core aspects of the course, you will also get:

  • Downloadable Leiths recipes and additional resources for you to keep
  • Access to your course dashboard for a total of 6 months after your start date

A ‘kit list’ of ingredients will be made available to you at the beginning of each session so that you and a parent or guardian can plan ahead. If you’re unable to find specific ingredients, advice on alternatives can be provided on request.

You will need access to a well-stocked kitchen, including at least a double hob (two rings) and an oven, preferably with a grill. In order to access the course content, you will need a smartphone or tablet and the Workshop app. Other equipment such as a food processor and electric hand whisk are recommended but not essential.

A comprehensive list of everything you will need for the course will be sent to you ahead of the start date.

Learning online with Leiths couldn’t be more straightforward. All you need to do is log into the Workshop learning app on your phone or tablet, follow our expert tutors’ step by step instructions, and get cooking.

You’ll work alongside up to nine other teens, who will soon become a helpful support group through the app, and you’ll be guided by a friendly Leiths mentor, who will be on hand to help you cook an impressive range of tasty accessible recipes. Take and upload pictures of your finished dish so that your tutor can comment and offer tips for next time, and your cohort can be inspired by your progress. The online community is a supportive, lively space where you’ll enjoy each other’s progress and build on each other’s culinary successes.

When you sign up to the Teen’s Kitchen, you’ll unlock a new unit every week, for six weeks, which you follow at your own pace. This includes introductory units covering key utensils and organisation and basic hygiene in the kitchen.

Don’t worry if you have too much homework, or need to skip a week during the holidays. Teen’s Kitchen is totally flexible, so you can take a session at the weekend or whenever you like. Your access to the course lasts for 6 months, so don’t feel pressured if your studies have to take priority for a while.

It’s a great way to learn skills and techniques that will boost your confidence as you get ready to leave home. Cooking is a great way to bond with new people; it’s inspiring to know that when that day comes, you’ll be able to feed yourself and your friends too. You’ll be amazed how much you learn on this tailor-made course.

When you finish the course, you’ll be awarded a Leiths-approved Certificate of Completion, acknowledging your growth as a confident young chef, and giving you a springboard to continue developing your skills in the future.
